What is the future of the super capacitor module industry now?

On April 12, 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Implementation Plan for the 2016 Special Action of Industrial Strong Foundation", which included supercapacitors as the focus of support. As soon as this news came out, many supercapacitor concept stocks were strongly recommended by major brokerages.

As an important part of national strategic emerging industries, supercapacitors are related to key areas such as new materials, new energy vehicles, new energy and energy conservation and environmental protection, new urban public transportation, and there are many potential use markets waiting to be developed. A series of strategic plans have been formulated.

Different from traditional chemical power sources, it is a power source with special properties between traditional Farad capacitors and batteries. However, there is no chemical reaction in the process of energy storage. This energy storage process is reversible, and it is precisely because of this that the Farad capacitor can be repeatedly charged and discharged hundreds of thousands of times.

Supercapacitor battery is a kind of power supply element with special functions between traditional capacitors and batteries. Huge capacity. No chemical reaction occurs during this period, so it is classified as a physical battery. It can be seen from the function of the supercapacitor module that the extensive penetration in various fields in the future has huge advantages, which may extend infinite possibilities in space.

Most of the supercapacitors suitable for new energy vehicles are large-capacity modules, which are widely used in wind turbine pitch systems in the field of wind power. According to the calculation of the Energy Bureau, in 2015, the new installed capacity of the national wind power industry was 32.97 million kilowatts, and the cumulative installed capacity connected to the grid reached 129 million kilowatts, accounting for 8.6% of the total installed power generation capacity. The strong growth momentum together means a lot of demand for wind turbine pitch systems and a broad market for supercapacitors.

In the supercapacitor industry chain, the raw materials in the production process are mainly positive and negative electrodes/electrolytes and separators. Among them, the electrode active materials of supercapacitor manufacturers are mostly activated carbon, and their industrialization skills are mainly in the hands of western developed countries. Separation skills are in the hands of Japanese companies. In terms of electrolyte, there is no technical bottleneck in China. And its manufacturing process: batching → mixing → electrode making → cutting → assembling → liquid injection → activation → testing → packaging, the whole process has a high skill content and a high entry threshold.

As an energy storage system with large energy storage, fast charging and discharging speed, wide operating temperature range, safe and reliable operation, and no maintenance, supercapacitors will gradually replace batteries with the development of supercapacitor technology, and their application fields will continue to expand. It will surely promote technological progress and achieve greater economic and social benefits.
