Can Farad capacitors replace car batteries?

Super Farad capacitors do have many advantages. They store electrical energy in a physical form, with long service life, fast charging and discharging, and low internal resistance. However, they also have the disadvantage of being fatal. It can replace these batteries of cars and motorcycles, and there is no technical problem, mainly due to economic reasons and engineering application reasons.


Under the same volume, the capacity of a supercapacitor is only one-twentieth of that of a lead-acid battery. Conversely, if you want to install a supercapacitor of the same capacity on your car, you need a volume as large as 20 batteries, which is of course impossible. According to this standard, if you really use supercapacitors, you don't need such a large capacity. After all, it has high charging and discharging efficiency, but it also requires a large volume as many batteries. This is difficult to achieve.

Some people have done a test, using a 17-volt 1000F super capacitor bank, it is completely able to start the car normally, even in the case of 500F, it can meet the requirements, because after the car is basically started, the power is continuously supplied. Capacitors only act as buffers. There is no problem for supercapacitor manufacturers to start, but the electronic system in the car uses a lot of electricity, such as the anti-theft system, ECU, and vehicle electrical appliances, which will quickly consume the power of the capacitor. If you use the car normally, if you forget to turn off the fan headlight sound for a few minutes when the engine is turned off, it may be enough to toss.


Even a supercapacitor pack of about 1000F costs more than 800 yuan, which is not cheap. Generally, a car battery of about 60AH costs less than 500 yuan. In terms of capacity comparison, a 1000F capacity is a drop in the bucket compared to a 60AH capacitor. The fundamental reason why lead-acid batteries are still used in cars instead of lithium batteries is the issue of price.

In general, lead-acid batteries, if the voltage is lower than 10.8 volts, will not be able to drive normally, but if you use super capacitors, you can indeed drive smoothly at around 9 volts. The battery life of the super capacitor module is hundreds of cycles, and the capacitor can do hundreds of thousands of times, which is several times longer than the life of the car. The instantaneous discharge of the battery is also limited. There is no problem with the supercapacitor reaching 2000 amps, and there is no problem of power loss. It can be used until there is no electricity, which is impossible for the battery.


Generally, it is used by connecting a Farad capacitor and a lead-acid battery in parallel. Of course, it should be properly considered to add some booster circuits to prevent the battery from charging the capacitor when the capacitor voltage is low. . The parallel use can extend the battery life, make it easier to start, ensure the burning energy, and the power of the car can be improved and improved to a certain extent. And this kind of usage, a 100-200F capacitor is enough, and it is much more economical.
