What do you think about the future of Farad capacitors?

In the 1990s, in order to change the market status of supercapacitors, EEStor, an American supercapacitor manufacturer, spent several years investing a lot of financial and material resources on the research and development of how to improve the energy density of Farad capacitors. And the application has risen to a new level. At that time, EEStor won a huge amount of research and development funds, and also reached a strategic cooperation with ZENN, an electric vehicle motor provider. However, a number of scientists who participated in the study came to the unfortunate conclusion that we would like to break the deadlock in the market for supercapacitors, but the existing technology cannot achieve this goal.

Although supercapacitors have been in operation for many years, the number of actual manufacturers is very small. Some manufacturers are facing the current situation of incomplete development of Farad capacitor technology, they dare not invest, adopt a wait-and-see strategy, and wait for the market to present a successful example of entering this field. Some other manufacturers are convinced that as long as the production cost of supercapacitor manufacturers can be greatly reduced, only with its fast charging and discharging characteristics at that time, rapid popularization can be achieved. The US supercapacitor manufacturer EEStor belongs to the latter. In 2015, the global supercapacitor market size reached 17.346 billion US dollars, and the Chinese supercapacitor module market size in 2015 reached nearly 3.5-4 billion yuan. According to industry research, the global supercapacitor market is expected to have a compound annual growth rate of more than 20% in the next five years.

Some sophisticated battery technologies such as lithium-ion batteries, nickel-metal hydride batteries, and lead-acid batteries have been developed, because chemical reactions occur during the charging and discharging process, which restricts their development. Therefore, the improvement of the function of the battery mainly depends on the improvement of the packaging technology and the strengthening of the preparation process. Supercapacitor technology is still in its infancy "infant stage" and has high development potential. Compared with chemical batteries that are constrained by the fixed structure of batteries, supercapacitors primarily rely on the physical properties of materials for energy storage. At the same time, compared with other mainstream batteries, supercapacitors still do not fully utilize the potential of surface energy storage, there is no disconnection from the "workshop" style of production and the lack of raw material supply. Avoid overheating the capacitor during soldering. If the capacitor is overheated during welding, the service life of the capacitor will be reduced. For example, if a printed circuit board with a thickness of 1.6mm is used, the welding process should be 260°C and the time should not exceed 5s.
